Round 5 in The AFL certainly didn’t let us down there was a little bit of everything for everyone! We started off with “The Blockbuster” the traditional big one at “The G” on ANZAC Day and what a game it was! The clash of ”The Titans” got off to a slow start ant The Pies led at every change, BUT they had to survive a late super-charged counter-attack from the mighty Bombers to get the coin.

The last time the felines got in to it was round 18 at Etihad Stadium last year wear the Cats tore strips off the Tigers to the tune of 62 points. Last week the reigning premiers had a “bad day at the office” and were cleaned up by North Melbourne to the tune of 17 points, whereas the Tigers belted lowly Melbourne by 59 points.

The big Queensland clash is about to unfold yet again! This is the third time the “banana benders” have faced off against each other. They are one a piece! The first clash The Gold Coast Suns sent the little Lions home with their tails between their legs, the second time around the Lions roared and got one back thumping the Suns in round 21 at The Gabba by 62 points.

Last time these two teams went head to head the Blues cleaned up the Lions by 61 points at Etihad Stadium way back in round 12 last year. This time they battle it out up at The Gabba. Both teams had comfortable wins in round one with the Lions demolishing the Dees by 41 points and the Blues pumping the Tigers by 44 points.

In the “Grande Finale” of round 1 of the AFL home and away season It was Port and the Saints fans who were also presented with an awesome and truly sensational display of the greatest game on earth a real “Ball Tearer” to be sure. In a game that many thought would be a one-sided affair and just like a bloke having a sex change a “cut and shut” so to speak.

Well what can you say……other than it was a “Dirty Day” for The Dogs as the West Coast Eagles cruised to an easy win. Goals for The Bulldogs were “as scarce as hens teeth” to be sure. It was simply a practice match for the soaring Eagles as they handed The Bulldogs a 49 point belting at Etihad Stadium and it was about as interesting as “watching paint dry” after the half- time break.

Well while The Dockers and the Cats were fighting it out across in the West. The Roos and The Bombers were fighting it out like “two ferrets in a potato sack” at Etihad Stadium it was a “Thunderdome” fight to the death the only difference being this ended in a 2 point result after the horn.

Let’s take a look at the pre-season form. The Demons had a sensational win against The Pies, but apart from that they were pretty ordinary. They were massacred by The Hawks and The Power (of all teams). Against Port Adelaide they certainly looked extremely lethargic, being decimated in the backline allowing lots of easy goals to be scored against them.

The Hawks showed why they are highly fancied to hold up the “Holy Grail” in 2012 hammering through five of the last six goals scored in the final term. The Magpie battleship was taking on water faster than “The Bismarck”.

AFL Round 1 Wrap up “The Awesome, The Average, The Atrocious” Swans vs Giants

A great win by The Swans and a gutsy performance by the Giants in their first ever AFL encounter and let’s not forget they had 17 debutants in the side. The Giants just might not be the push over many think they will be. As for the Swans they are a hard nut to crack.
